Orangery Kitchen Extension

“Our previous kitchen was only 7 – 8 years old and perfectly functional,” explains Karen. “However, because we were extending, we needed to re-think the kitchen again, bring it up to date, and make it fit the new proportions.”

The builders recommended KBS as they had worked with the designer Sue Birch on previous occasions, so Karen and Dermot went along to visit and chat about ideas.

“We did try a couple of others too,” says Karen, “but to be honest, Sue was by far the best designer we met. The initial fact-finding was very thorough in relation to what we wanted, and she spent around 1.5 hours with us, really understanding our needs. The plans she drew up were delivered quickly too, and she was the only designer we saw who came up with what I’d call a ‘working’ kitchen. Something that looked good, and was practical. Too many designers tend to concentrate on the look over the functionality, but Sue got both married up perfectly.”

The kitchen fitting took a total of 3 weeks, which was exactly to timescale, and the couple are delighted with the result, which includes:
• Central Island – featuring Quooker boiling tap
• Induction Hob – Easy to wipe and instant heat with downdraught extractor fan vented below the floor.
• Larder unit
• Wine Cooler
• Two single ovens with warming drawers below each oven.
• Separate built in microwave
• Wide pull out storage drawers

The colour scheme is cream painted wood, chrome knobs and oak veneer side panels, pelmets and kick boards. The work tops are Silstone Eco Terra (brown).

The builder was Lansdowne Conservatories.

“We now spend all our time in the kitchen/orangery,” says Karen. “In fact – the rest of the house is redundant. We absolutely love what’s been created – thank you so much KBS.”
