A Modern Living Kitchen

That was the situation with Mr and Mrs Clarke from Buckinghamshire – when they saw their neighbour’s kitchen, they knew they’d be in good hands.

Just to be sure, the couple called in a few other companies to quote, “But in the end,” says Mr Clarke, “it takes away a lot of the stress when you go with what you know. Our neighbours had exactly what they wanted, that was more than good enough for us.”

Mr and Mrs Clarke have been in their home a while and now the children have left, they decided it was time for an update. They felt that their previous kitchen had done its work after 22 years. They were looking for something modern but timeless, that was also functional – Mrs Clark is a cookery teacher and spends so much of her life in the kitchen it had to be right for her needs especially!

On the initial visit, we discussed ideas and talked about the essentials, honing down on what they did and didn’t want their design to incorporate. There had to be a seated area and a breakfast bar. Lighting was also important, including plenty of adjustable down-lighting. Mrs Clarke was also keen to have no handles, as the units are so much easier to clean.

Once the designs had been approved and tweaked, work commenced, taking a total of almost 5 weeks. “There were a few things along the way that we encountered,” says Mr Clarke, “one of them was realising that we couldn’t have the ceramic floor tiles we’d wanted. When it was dug up, we discovered a ‘floating’ floor, so our designer Chris suggested Amtico flooring instead, which we much prefer now anyway!”

As for Mrs Clarke, she’s delighted with the rubbish recycling unit that we suggested, as it means everything can be kept tidily out of the way. “It’s actually my favourite feature now,” she says. “We’re delighted our neighbours recommended KBS and we followed through on their recommendation.”
