A Contemporary Kitchen with Colour in Rickmansworth
“We’d sold our previous house after 22 years,” explains Graham. “We rented in Rickmansworth to see if we liked the town, and having decided that we did, we purchased our current property.”
The couple were set on the house, but after a few weeks, realised that they would not be happy with the minor refurbishment they’d initially planned, so instead decided to maximise the house’s potential. The result is a beautiful, modern house incorporating a 2 storey double-fronted extension to the front and a single storey rear extension which now includes the open-plan living area and kitchen.
The couple had strong ideas on the design and layout of the kitchen and knew they wanted a totally handle-free look. Having considered many manufacturers, they sourced three separate quotations, initially with the intention of requiring supply only, and with Graham’s own site carpenters performing the installation.
However, as with all the best laid plans, things changed along the way. “We were introduced to Brent the project manager from KBS, via my son,” says Graham. “It was Brent who simply said if you want modern it has to be German.
“On visiting their showrooms and meeting with Bob Baines, we were immediately impressed.
“We had a basic layout and knew what we wanted in our colour palette, including the bright pink worktop for the island and the green one in the utility room!
“Bob fully-understood our requirements and offered us the style, range and colours to meet our needs. After 5 days, as agreed, we were shown the most professional presentation and detailed quotation. We agreed straight away and were so impressed that we asked KBS to carry out the installation too.”
The project began on October 2014, with practical completion achieved March 31 2015 and now the house has been transformed from a 4 bed, 2 bath, to a 5 bed 4 bath with 4 reception rooms.
Features include walnut doors, grey double glazed windows, Porcelanosa tiles, Duravit & Grohe sanitary ware and of course the KBS kitchen.
Jan played more than her part too, undertaking large amounts of research with regard to the white goods, including the new range Neff steam oven.
“We can’t fault the service,” says Graham. “The order was placed at the end of December, with installation to our plan on March 1. All dates were achieved, the installation was exceptional, and worktops were turned round in just 5 days! Bob and Brent must have visited the site themselves on at least 12 occasions. The attention to detail was as if they were installing our kitchen in their own homes. We’re delighted.”
